Chris Patterson has volunteered to look after and improve the gym/fitness facilities at the club, initially being used up in the loft then in time be moved downstairs (fingers crossed). This will benefit the players (of all ages) and help the club to maintain and improve playing standards.
An audit of fitness/gym equipment will be conducted over this weekend or on Tuesday, just to see what exactly we have. Chris will be donating a York Multi bench with bench press, legs and flys, 1x bar and a selection of weights plus an Ab Machine. He has also managed to have donated an Exercise Bike, TV, and Stereo for the loft space. Jonny Mantle is also kindly donating a set of weights. If you have any equipment you do not use that has been sat in the garage gathering cobwebs, the club would be extremely greatful for any donations of equipment or relevant items. Any questions or ideas would be welcome, please do not hesitate to call Chris on 07984611147. |

| Latest News on preparations for season 2008/09 |
|
The club’s fortunes have seen something of a resurgence in recent seasons. Once again the first XV will be competing in Dorset & Wiltshire 1 North, after making successive County Plate finals and claiming the spoils in this year’s competition in April with a stylish victory over Swindon College Old Boys. The number of players has steadily increased and the club will again have a 2nd XV playing in Dorset and Wilts 3 (N).
Ahead of the 2008/09 season the club has appointed former Midlands, Harlequins and Coventry hooker, Gary Sharp as its new coach. Sharp, who lives in Aldbourne and has turned out on occasions for his local team, has been keen on a return to a more active involvement with rugby and is delighted to be taking up the challenge at the club. "Marlborough is a great club and has huge potential for the future. I watched a couple of games towards the end of last season and was very excited by the style of rugby and the enthusiasm of the boys for playing a fast and open game." Training has now started and all new or former players are welcome to come along: meet at 6.30pm on Tuesday evenings at the clubhouse. The club has also a number of developments with its junior section for the new season. When the season resumes on September 6th it will be running teams from Under 7s right through to Under 14s, as well as testing the water with a new Under 17s team. Building a seamless club right through from Under 7s to the senior teams is a key development goal for the club and the establishment of an Under 17s team is a key step according to club chairman Charlie Sheppy, "Establishing an Under 17s team is an important statement of intent for the future of the club and will hopefully provide us with a useful talent pool to feed in to the senior teams in the coming years." The club is also building its links with St John’s School and the two organisations will be working together very closely over the next couple of years to ensure that the pupils can continue to play rugby whilst the new school is being built. The club is continuing to run touch rugby training sessions over the summer period with all ages and sizes welcome to join in on a Tuesday evening. Anyone interested can either turn up at the club at 6.30pm on Tuesday evenings or call either Simon (07971 261304) or Rod (01672 810718) for further information. |

| MRFC Development Meeting |
|
Marlborough Rugby Club is currently in the process of working towards the RFU Seal of Approval, a scheme which recognises that a Rugby Club is managed and run in a way that makes it safe and appropriate for members of the local community to join or to allow their chidren to join. In order to receive the Award, which is reviewed on an annual basis, rugby clubs must ensure they have the correct processes and plans in place to meet the requirements laid down by the RFU. As part of that process, we need to produce a Development Plan for the Club that sets out the ambitions and plans we have for the Club for the next five years. Working session at the Rugby Club was on Thursday November 22nd, the follow up meeting is on Monday 17th December, (from 7pm to 9pm). The objective of the meeting is for us to get feedback from as broad a base of our stakeholders and other interested people as possible. The better the input, the better the plan. We have invited Amanda Cox, Leisure Development Officer for Kennet, as well as Simon Culley the Wiltshire Rugby Development Officer for Wiltshire. Tom Nicholls, the master in charge of rugby at St. Johns has also been invited and we also expect to have a representative from St Francis School in Pewsey . In addition we obviously hope to have a wide representation from Club members and senior players. The idea is to run through the current Development Plan and get as much input as possible to help guide us in developing a final plan that we can be happy with. We see the Junior section of the Club as a critical part of our future and the Seal of Approval is largely aimed at ensuring that we have the right processes and programmes aimed at the Junior player. We would love, therefore, to get input from as many parents as possible. Please look at the Development link to see the outline plan. Help us to shape the future of Rugby in Marlborough ! |
